Henna Hands
2000- 2002
acrylic paint on paper with collage mounted on foam core
7.25" x 4.5"
Margaret Murphy's ''Henna Hands'' look like pattern samples for the temporary body decorations common in India and the Middle East, but close up they reveal their true role: product placement. Like the polo player or alligator on sportswear, these tattoos are designed as walking advertisements, perfect for a culture in which brand recognition rules.
-Helen A. Harrison, New York Times.
